Every year, the door and access systems industry recognize May as Garage Door Safety Month. Garage door safety is critical to the health and wellbeing of our customers, employees, and our communities. We will go over some of the basics in this post.

Safety Procedures – Look, Listen, Learn, Remember

The best known practices come from a procedure created by the IDA (short for International Door Association) known as Look, Listen, Learn, and Remember. In short, when inspecting or using your garage door, you should:

1. Look for visible wear and tear on your garage door and the parts that help with operating the door.
2. Listen for any grinding, scraping, or other sounds that your door doesn’t make often.
3. Learn about ways to keep your home safe and make adjustments to ensure a safe environment for children and others.
4. Remember to seek out help from professionals when you notice something is off about your door.
