Garage Door Material Basics

residence

Many homeowners have to face getting a new garage door, or replacing a door. There are so many options that it can become overwhelming to decide on what suits your needs. Garage doors are made from many different materials. Some of the materials used in doors are wood, galvanized steel, and aluminum. Fret not, because Lodi is here to teach the fundamentals of garage doors, so you can identify your preferences.

Garage Door Material Basics -Wooden Garage Doors

Wooden garage doors have been a staple in the garage door industry because of their timeless and traditional beauty. They are durable, environmentally friendly and can be customized without much trouble. On the other hand, they require regular maintenance, are generally less energy efficient, and are flat-out heavy. With that being said, the upfront investment in a wooden garage door will provide many years of elegance and reliability.

Garage Door Material Basics – Steel Garage Doors

Steel garage doors are prominent in the garage door industry because they are economical. Wood doors add extra appeal to a home, but steel doors are typically about one-third of the price of wooden doors. (And at Lodi, we specialize in making steel doors look identical to wooden ones). Along with those features, steel doors are reliable in weather-related situations, require less maintenance, and can be insulated better than a wooden door. However, steel doors risk rusting, dents, and not all steel doors come insulated. If you want a door that’s cost-effective and can withstand storms and other natural events, then a steel door may be the door of choice for you.

Aluminum Garage Doors

Aluminum garage doors provide a sleek and modern look to homes. It is very unique among common metals because it is lightweight and easier to install. This can help the longevity of the tools used on the door, like the openers and other facets of the apparatus. To add to the case, aluminum is naturally resistant to rusting and corrosion. Nevertheless, aluminum doors are more likely to dent than steel, which may be a problem. If you can handle this, the easy install and reduced strain on the opening components may be a selling point for you.

This concludes the garage door material basics. As mentioned before, there are many options that come with picking materials for a garage door. Stay tuned for next weeks’ post where we talk about insulation. And as always, feel free to give us a call for any of your garage door needs.
